Malaysian Christians allowed to use the word Allah again

The Malaysian High Court has ruled that Christians have a constitutional right to use the world Allah when referring to God. The decision overturns a government ban on non-Muslims using the word.

The judge says the term Allah is not exclusive to Islam. The case was brought to court by the Roman Catholic weekly publication, the Herald.

Its editor Laurence Andrew, says the ban had been unreasonable as the term Allah had been in use for centuries in Christian worship and prayers. He says the court ruling is a blessing.
